Tom Espinoza, Nov. 2006
Over Thanksgiving weekend I received a call from my good buddy Robert Johnson. However, it was the type of call that one always dreads. Our friend, Tom Espinoza had died suddenly a few days earlier. I spoke with Tom's brother Alex. He graduated from Montebello in 1976, and is a pediatrician in Oakland. Alex told me that as far as he knew, Tom had no underlying medical problems. Tom had a cardiac arrest while riding his bike in Newport Beach.
During his high school years, Tom was active in student government and inter scholastic athletics. After high school, Tom graduated from the University of Southern California with a business degree. He spent his professional life involved in multiple entrepreneurial endeavors. Tom is survived by his two grown children, Marina and David, from his previous marriage to Angie Sanchez; seven of his eight siblings and his mother. He was preceded in death by his father and a younger sister.
On a personal note, Tom was one of the first friends that I made when my family moved to Montebello before seventh grade. We remained in contact through the years, despite our cross country separation. I will always remember his infectious smile and great sense of humor. Tom will be missed by us all.

Robert Kaplan, 1997.
This is to let you know that Robert passed away March
of 1997. I really do miss the loveable guy, and I believe there are others
who will miss him also. Robert had a successful career in the nuclear
engineering field, and he was a real family man. He really loved his 2
kids, Justin who is now 16, and Allison, his little princess, now 14. We had
24 years of a beautiful life together, although someone with a little more
power than myself had other plans for Robert, I'm sure he is still having a beautiful life. So to all his fellow classmates, just remember Robert for
his wonderful heart, and his smiling face.
