Sokoloff 2006-May
Hello Friends!
I hope you are all well. While gathering data for a project one day something motivated me to look-up the MHS website. Very interesting, all of us are grown, middle-aged adults now, even though my memory
of MHS is locked in a 1970 time-warp.
I am married and live in Newport Beach, CA; I also have a daughter who lives in Salem, Oregon.
I have been a real estate broker since 1976 and have been involved with real estate appraisal and finance also. We lived in Oregon for 12 years where I enjoyed working with the young
people at our non-denominational Christian church. We now attend Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa.
May God answer all your questions and solve all of your problems as He has for me...
Your fellow MHS 1970 Alumnus,
Peter Sokoloff.

Hello to all the classmates
of 1970.
Although I may not remember all of you nor
would you remember me, the years spent at
Montebello was a blast. Good teachers and many
good friends.
Love to ALL!

Being the shy type I have
stayed away from most of the reunions but
Montebello High is part of my heritage and I
must embrace it. I had a lot of good friends
there who I have lost and I feel bad about
that. I hope that maybe I can reunite with
those who were important to me then.
For those who don't remember
me I hung out with the tennis players (John
Rodriguez, Bob Odou, etc) and really wasn't
involved with other things.
I have been married now for
almost 12 years and have a small (4 year old)
son, Michael. I live in Woodland Hills and
work in Burbank.
love to all

Hi Cindy and fellow Oilers,
I don't know how many of you
remember me? I hung-out with Jerry Shadrick,
Robert Castillo, Dave Ulloa, and grew up with
Art Gloria and Richie Pena on Markland Dr. in
Monterey Park.
My wife Mimi and I have been
married for 23 years. She is a wonderful
Chinese girl from Viet-Nam.
I received my B.A in 1978
from L.I.F.E. Bible College and my M.A. in
1993 from Fuller Theological Seminary in
Pasadena.
I am currently working at
Biola University as the chaplain for the
international graduate students and serving as
the pastor of the English congregation at the
Irvine First Chinese Baptist Church.
I thank God for an exciting
and interesting life. I have had the
opportunity of traveling to about 20
countries.
Sorry to list so many facts,
seems many of us have had very rewarding and
successful lives! Please write I would like to
hear from you!
God bless you all,
Steve Rodriguez

Hi everybody. I was really
sorry to miss the reunion this year, but
because we moved about 5 years ago, I ended up
on the "missing list". Well as you
can see, I'm not missing, just misplaced.
Glen and I will be married
32 years on September 1st. Glen is still
working for the post office. I was working as
a corporate trainer until about 3 years ago
when I took a fall and did some major damage
to my back. I've had two spinal fusions and am
hoping everything is fixed now.
Our 3 kids have blessed us
with 5 grandchildren, ages 10,9,4,2 and 2
months. It's great being grandparents!
I'd love to hear from you.

I was known as Jaye
Friedman. I should have graduated in 1970, but
unfortunately I married Rick Nudelman in 1968
and did not graduate with my class.
I did however go back to
Montebello High to get my GED when I was in my
20's. I have since earned my Early Childhood
Teaching Certificate and have taught preschool
for 11 years. This coming Fall I will be the
Asst. Director in a wonderful preschool in
Arizona, where I have lived for 11 years with
my second husband Mike, Scott 16 - and Jessica
13.
I am interested in
contacting Betty Johnson, Jeannie Gray, Janet
Rivera, Maria Faulkner, Linda Gomez, Pete
Sokoloff, Wayne Pieroni, Ronald and Donald
Patterson, and Mickey ___________?
Thank you,

I'm sorry I missed the
reunion this past year ... found out too late.
I was married for 29 years
and we are now headed for a divorce, but after
raising four great kids, I feel blessed and
have no regrets.
I've been with the LAPD for
26 years as a detective supervisor working
gangs. I live in Huntington Beach with
my oldest son who is also on the force (6
years) and we also have my grandson part of
the time (three real bachelors at the beach).
My oldest daughter is
teaching in the Oceanside area and my youngest
son and daughter are at Cal State Fullerton.
My health is good ... career is good ... no
regrets as I said.
I have a web site at www.gangcop.com
and I'd love to hear from old classmates
... also if I can be of help to anyone,
contact me.

Hi to everyone!
Sorry I missed the Reunion
this year. Looks like it was really fun.
Cindy, thanks for the great
pictures and updated information. Just wanted
to say hi and let you know that I'm still
living in San Diego. I have two great kids (10
and 15 years), work two jobs (to keep up with
the rising gas/electric costs and my 15 year
old's appetite), and am going to graduate
school.
Life is busy and good. Would
love to hear from you.
God Bless
Helen

Hi Cindy and MHS Oilers!
Sorry, I am unable to be at
the reunion tonight. I've managed to attend
all the others and have always enjoyed them so
much.
My family and I are living
in Pasadena. I have two daughters Katie (11)
and Emily (7). They manage to keep me on my
feet and in the car most of the time.
I'm a stay at home mom and
volunteer too much. We live near the Rose Bowl
(2 miles), so if anyone plans to attend the
parade (1 mile) or the Rose Bowl game, it is
walkable from my house. Let me know, I'd love
to hear from you! Take care everyone and I
hope to see you at the next event.

Hi everyone! Sorry I can't
be there with you this year. I am recently
married and in the process of moving. I
married a truly wonderful guy who has been
with me through a really rough time. A year
ago last July I was diagnosed with cancer. I
had a rough time with chemo and radiation and
4 surgeries in 8months, but am now cancer
free. (so far) I know I'll be fine. Never give
up!
I am now living in Downey
and looking to forward to starting a new life
and new career. I am not sure what yet. My
Daughter is a vocalist and song writer. She is
currently attending CSUF. Last spring she
graduated from LA COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE
ARTS with honors. I was so proud and happy to
be able to be there.
Please feel free to E-mail
me. This is my husbands E-mail address. His
real name is Spencer not Pete, but my daughter
nicked name him after seeing Toy Stoy2.

Hi Cindy:
Thank you for not forgetting
about me. Boy, I wish I could be there with
all of you. Hope it's a great party. We had a
great class. Please say hi for me to any of my
old band mates in The Esquires, Concert Band,
and Choir. I still play music - I own an
Italian Restaurant on the Central Oregon
Coast. It's called The Italian Riviera
Restaurant & Piano Bar (2 miles north of
Depoe Bay) which is between Newport &
Lincoln City. It keeps me pretty busy - But I
love it!!! If anyone wants to E-Mail: Italriv@newportnet.com.
Have a great Party,
Keep in touch,
Love,

Dear Cindy and MHS friends,
I regret that Cathy and I
will not be in attendance for our 30th high
school reunion. My oldest son will be playing
in a college state championship soccer game in
Santa Barbara, game time is 7:00 PM. What a
bummer!
The web page looks great!
Loved looking around and seeing all the old
friends.
Wow........ I know it's been
30 years, but I was shocked to see some of the
names on the "Memoriam" list. I felt
especially blessed to be with Steve Griff and
his family the night his soul was delivered to
our Lord. It was one of the most powerful, and
sad nights of my life. Steve fought the hard
fight against cancer for seven very long
years. Steve was always a joy to be with, and
he developed the healing touch of a very
caring chiropractor. Give Nate Mizrahi a hug
for me in remembrance of Squiddy if you see
him Saturday night.
Another name to add to the
In Memoriam list is Randy Osborne. Randy died
in June of 1981. Auto accident in Monterey
Park. Randy made some poor decisions along the
way, but was a great guy who came from a
wonderful family.
Some thoughts on those who I
knew who have passed on: Larry Kaminsky,
always one of those smart ones, he just looked
smart, darn good second baseman, good speed on
the bases, so so bat...... Robert Kaplan, how
could you not like this guy, always up.......
Bill Okuda, way too nice a guy to every hurt
someone on the football field, always smiling,
always pleasant...... Jerry Schadrick was our
answer to Larry Bird, he could shoot your eyes
out on the basketball court, the words
"chucking and jiving" were invented
to describe Jerry and Richard Vasques.
- Bruce Lutz..... be well
my friend and hope your back gets better
soon.
- Richie Pena, make them
laugh and hope to play some tennis with
you some day.
- Frisco Yamaski, show up
some time why don't you.
- Jim Sandoval, call me, I
have no idea where you are.
- Dennis Perry, I got to
see your kids again before they go to
college.
- Dickie Tejeda, would
really like to see ya.
- Bill Fujioka, did I see a
picture of you kayak fishing in Baja?
- Would like to see you
some day cousin David.
Best Regards to all.

I'm single, although happily
cohabitating with the same guy for 6 years, no
kids, and am still traveling the world
whenever possible. I'm a freelance legal
assistant and am thinking about a new career
(what, I don't know yet)?
Other than that, I have been
living in Santa Monica near the beach for 16
years, in the same place, and will probably
live here forever, which is fine by me!

(Wendt) Cavanaugh

My husband, Martin
Cavanaugh, and I will celebrate our 25th
wedding anniversary on December 27. We have
three beautiful daughters, Kelly Ann (22),
Shannon Marie (20) and Kathleen Erin (18 1/2).
My Mom has lived with us now 9 years and is 85
years old. My father passed away from colon
cancer in 1983.
After High School I went to
work for L.A. County and worked my way up for
a Stenographer to Administrative Assistant to
the Director of Consumer Affairs. I quit work
with the impending birth of my second daughter
and stayed home to raise our girls. I worked
from my home and part-time in the office as a
secretary to a Financial Planner,
"scoped" for a group of Court
Reporters, and then we moved north.
I have worked for the
Antioch Unified School District for 11 years
now, and I'm the School Secretary to Fremont
Elementary School. I am "mom" to 760
kids, two administrators, and a staff of 80.
I'm thoroughly in my element because I love
being with the kids instead of in a business
office. A commute of 7 minutes is greatly
appreciated after driving for hours to and
from L.A. for ten years.
My husband is the Chief of
Staff for the Elk Grove Unified School
District (near Sacramento) (one of the fastest
growing districts in the U.S.) and consults on
the side for other districts (currently Los
Angeles Unified). I haven't been back to L.A.
in over 8 years, but often think of the
neighborhood, former friends and classmates.
I wish I could be there to
join in the fun, but with my responsibilities
to my Mom, I just can't get away. I hope you
and all of our classmates have a wonderful
time.
Good luck, keep in touch,
and God bless you! Thanks again for all of
your endeavors to keep the Class of '70 going!
Even though I cannot attend, I can't thank you
enough for the pictures and info via internet.

Yes, I am sooo bummed that I
just found out about the reunion. I'd still be
there in a heartbeat to see you all, if I
didn't have obligations. Please hug each other
one extra time for me!
By the way, if you are ever
up near San Francisco, let me know. I'm a
single gal again and love to show people
around and get out myself in this great area.
Henry is 14 and Anne is 11.... Life is such an
adventure.
Namaste All
